Girls Who Code’s Canadian Women in Tech Spotlights

Natalie Cartwright is the founder of Finn AI, an AI-powered virtual assistant built for personal banking and finance.

Canadians lack confidence in their ability to manage their personal finances — 49% would give their personal finance skills a C grade or worse — and financial literacy feels out of grasp for many of them, especially women, who are far more likely to rate their money skills poorly than their male counterparts.

This is something that Natalie Cartwright, co-founder of Finn AI, knows all too well.

Earlier in her career, Cartwright worked in international development for UNICEF and the United Nations Global Fund. At the latter, she helped manage $250-million in health investments, something that ignited in her a passion for accessible financial planning.

Understanding the need for a simpler, more convenient way to track financial decisions, Natalie Cartwright created a solution — Finn AI.

“After my experience at The Global Fund investing in resources to end world epidemics, I was exposed to the reality that we live in a profit-driven economy in an impact-motivated world. Starting Finn AI was my way of solving a global financial literacy epidemic by helping banks see the profit behind improving financial wellness of underserved markets around the world.”

Finn AI is dedicated to helping people better manage their money by making use of artificial intelligence. The company builds virtual financial assistance for banks which interact directly with customers, providing them with immediate answers to their most pressing saving and spending questions.

Starting Finn AI was my way of solving a global financial literacy epidemic by helping banks see the profit behind improving financial wellness of underserved markets around the world.

“Our big mission at Finn AI is to improve the financial lives of 100 million people by 2025. To do this, we’re enabling AI technology to democratize the access to personal financial advice and ultimately instill confidence in this generation that financial wellness is achievable for all.”

To date, Finn AI’s artificial intelligence builds have been implemented in South Africa (for TymeBank, where they developed Max, a conversational AI assistant) and elsewhere across the globe for a number of banks including ATB Financial, Bank of Montreal (BMO), and Banpro.

At Girls Who Code we believe that you cannot be what you cannot see. This is why we’ve created Women in Tech Spotlights featuring Canadian women in tech for our Clubs in Canada. These Spotlights are available to our Clubs Facilitators across Canada as teaching aids for the girls in their classrooms.
