Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month! All month long we’re featuring some amazing women making waves in the #Cybersecurity field. Today, we’re spotlighting Rachel Kim Bierner, Head of Cloud Security at Wells Fargo and the Co-founder of Project Cyber. Check out our exclusive Q and A with her below.

What do you love about your job?

I love being at the intersection of cybersecurity and technology transformation. It’s complex and hard, but it’s never boring. I have to ensure that cloud security risk is appropriately anticipated, managed and controlled through technology solutions, processes and practices — before we start to use a new cloud service or deploy a new application to the cloud, as well as on a continuous basis as the threat and technology landscape is ever-changing.

What advice would you give to girls who are interested in a cybersecurity career?

I love talking with girls about this through Project Cyber! Cybersecurity is a very diverse field — there are so many different roles that one can consider and pursue, whether it’s technical (like penetration testing, cyber forensics, cryptography, software engineering) or non-technical (like risk and compliance, public policy, education/awareness, metrics). Explore these different tracks and see which align to your interests and aspirations. Talk to women in the field and learn about what they do and how they got there. I bet you’ll hear some about some fascinating career journeys!

Stay tuned and follow us all month long to learn more about inspiring leaders in cyber.
